Welcome to That Pedal Show! Please subscribe to our channel and visit our store 🤍 Life too short for long YouTube videos? See the ’Interesting bits and go-to sections’ timings below. In this video we drip slowly into the spellbinding tank of spring reverb. Among the oldest effects anywhere – not least for guitar – a classic spring reverb uses a physical chamber (tank), in which sit a number of real springs with an input transducer at one end and an output transducer at the other. Audio goes in, excites the springs, and the resultant sound is swathed in ambience. We love it. However, not all amps have spring reverb – or any reverb at all for that matter – so what options exist for you to add to your rig? We compare three genuine spring-equipped outboard units with some more compact digital takes on the spring reverb sound. Let’s get washy, baby… A note on the Anasounds tanks. If you’re confused about which one you’re hearing, you can see the red and white cables plugged in to the tank being used at the top of the screen. We’d also like to apologise for the confusion caused by talking over the reverb trails. One day before the end of time, Dan will learn that he has to let the reverb finish before talking. Danish Pete says he has a solution… but they don’t use room mics. I’ll stop moaning now, but I’m not answering any comments on it because I’m tired to almost-death of explaining it over and over again: the voice mics are gained waaaaaay louder than the amp mics, so the amps are waaaaaay louder through the voice mics than through the amp mics. You bring the voice mics up because Dan starts talking, and then the sound of the reverb is unrealistically loud. I’m going for a valium and lie-down. Mick here. ►► My Ambient Guitar Guide Is Now A Full FREE Video Course! Check it out! → 🤍 Difference between delay types: 🤍 Today, I show you the difference between 4 of the most popular reverb types: room, hall, spring, plate. I make the comparison using the Strymon Big Sky and the TC Electronic Hall of Fame reverb. While the differences can get very technical and complicated, we will basically focus on 2 parameters: the initial reflections & the body of the reverb. The differences are subtle, but are still very important to be aware of when choosing the best reverb type for the part you are playing. Some types are better as an ''always-on'' base to your sound (Room, Spring), while some other are better as an effect on certain parts of the song (Hall, Plate). Some reverbs are also emulating natural echoes (Room, Hall), while some others are manmade (Sping, Plate) with vibrating springs or metal sheets. With so much tweakability on the parameters, it's possible to make some types of reverb sound different from what they were intended for, but it's still important to know the essence of all reverb types to make the best decisions. Hope you will like this comparison! If you have some questions, write them in the comment section below :) _ More lessons and music: ► Ambient Guitar Academy (online courses): 🤍 ► My studio albums : 🤍 → Subscribe : 🤍 _ Through original ambient music, chordal guitar lessons and tips on guitar pedals, Antoine is looking to educate and inspire aspiring ambient musicians to learn everything about the world of ambient guitar and chordal voicings on guitar.

Buy Now: 🤍 Today we're getting our hands on the Hooke Reverb from Keeley Electronics. The Hooke Reverb is a dedicated blackface-type effects section in a compact stompbox. Despite its name, the Hooke Reverb offers up accurate tube driven reverb AND tremolo so you don't have to lug your expensive blackface amp everywhere you go. The Hooke offers three modes, featuring two time-tested verb takes and one futuristic 'verb patch. In Spring mode, the Hooke gives control over every parameter of a real spring reverb tank from transducer brightness to spring tightness, letting you zero in on your favorite spring settings, while Trem-Verb mode introduces a tube-driven tremolo and reverb sound and has been specially EQ'd by Keeley's engineering squad for a modern take on the tandem that sounds killer. The Fugue verb mode is a sound that didn't exist before the Hooke was built, activating a fully-wet "organ-verb" sound that combines upper and lower octaves with a deep spring reverb. If three modes aren't enough, opening the pedal reveals three more modes. Long Decay Trem Verb gives the reverb sound a lengthy decay for extra atmosphere. Spring Plate combines the best of both reverb types with a crossfade effect for precision dialing. Vibro-Spring mode switches the tremolo out for true pitch vibrato reminiscent of the Magnatone amps of yore. Each Hooke Reverb is built one at a time by Keeley's platoon of engineers right here in the USA.

🤍 The Element is a pedal that takes back the very essence of the analogue reverb, which is obtained by physically stimulating springs thanks to the guitar signal. Simply. No artificials. No calculations. From beautiful mechanics coupled to analog signal processing. What’s more? There’s a mini jack to plug on the back of the pedal. Then, it will be connected to the box full of springs (called a tank) via RCA connectors. This tank is mandatory because it is the one that allows to generate an analog effect of reverb. Compared from other spring reverb that use huge boxes, the tank is detached from the pedal, and connected by a cable. Then the tank can be hidden under the pedalboard or kept on top of the board, this is up to you! Self-drilling screws are supplied with the tank to help you attach the tank to the desired location on the pedalboard.
This is a short build video of the simple and lofi cheap spring reverb I constructed out of a toy spring reverb, a loudspeaker and a guitar pickup. It's recommended to use headphones to hear the reverb effect optimally. - The voice over was made with the Commodore Amiga speech synthesis from 1985, and was recorded from my Commodore Amiga 1200. It was then reverbed with the spring reverb. - Download the impulse response file made with the spring reverb here (hosted at a slow server atm): 🤍 - The female and male voices used in the tests was downloaded from here: 🤍 (ExcessiveExposure.wav) 🤍 (TrainToNowhere.wav) The rest of the sounds and music used in the tests are made by me. - The background music was exclusively written by me for this video. No title. - The video shots were post-stabilized. Therefore the videos might look a bit "wobbly" and "smeary".
Here are two more innovations you can incorporate into your next cigar box guitar build. Try installing the spring at an angle so it’s in contact with the top of the box and then add guitar strap buttons to the same mounting blocks that the springs are attached to... see what happens 😎

We’re back with some more Funky Vintage just for you! If you like real springs that you can stomp on and kick around, then the Danelectro Spring King is your speed. Though not exactly vintage, it packs actual springs to produce the sound of vintage spring ‘verb units rather than resorting to digital. The Danelectro Spring King may be discontinued, but you can still snag one on Reverb. Read more on Reverb: 🤍
The True Spring Reverb revisits and reimagines the timeless combination of spring reverb and tremolo. The Source Audio engineering team put years of collective man-hours into capturing every nuance and idiosyncrasy of the spring reverb and tremolo effects from some of the music gear industry’s most iconic guitar amps and outboard gear. For more info on the True Spring Reverb visit - 🤍 Special thanks to guitarists Lyle Brewer ( 🤍 ) and Paul Candilore for laying down some sweet guitars on this demo. Lyle - 0:00 through 3:06 Paul - 3:07 through 7:07 Lyle - 7:08 through 9:07 The True Spring has three types of authentic spring reverb. The Short and Long Spring engines offer spring reverb tones inspired by iconic combo amps, and the Tank engine for a “drippy” sound inspired by tube driven outboard spring tanks. Combine any of the spring reverb effects with any of the True Spring’s three styles of tremolo. Tremolo effects include Opto, Bias, and Harmonic. The True Spring comes in a compact and durable brushed aluminum housing with stereo inputs and outputs, external expression and tap tempo control, and six preset positions. When combined with the Neuro Hub, the True Spring also features full MIDI functionality. Dialing in a wide selection of gorgeous reverb and tremolo tones is simple right out of the box, but the True Spring also offers a far deeper set of editing abilities and unique routing options when connected to the Neuro Desktop Editor or Neuro Mobile App. Use the Neuro Editor to create highly customized presets, then save, store, and share them with the rest of the growing Neuro Community.
Erica Synths Black Spring Reverb is a different take on spring reverberation units. It features a DSP chip in the feedback path with 7 different effects, vactrol based compressor and option to use internal, external or combination of both spring tanks at the same time. Buy Now: 🤍 Today we're dipping into the Silver Spring Reverb from Mad Professor. This simple design allows quick adjustment across a wide range of spaces both big and small. The Silver Spring Reverb can generate warm or lively rooms, classic spring, and large studio reverb sounds. Decay time and tone controls work together to avoid the unnatural, overly bright tails of yesterday and have many sweet spots across their entire sweep. Mad Professor also designed the Silver Spring to coexist with clean or dirty amps and your favorite distortion effects, a feat not usually accomplished in stompbox form. Finally, the Mad Professor Silver Spring Reverb keeps your guitar's dry, analog signal intact and unfiltered while true bypass switching takes the circuit out of your chain when not in use.
I discuss and demo the BIG 3 types of reverbs: Spring, Plate and Hall. Hope this helps you on your journey to get the reverb pedal that is best for you and your music!
