The Slava Medical 2428 is a charming watch with some high horology and affordable values. 0:00 Intro 0:34 Review 20:52 Constant Force discussion Made in the USSR just 2 years before the fall. This was the only mechanical pulsometer watch made by the USSR The story was that doctors and medics helping out with the aftermath of the Chernobyl accident had their quartz watches suddenly run inaccurately or stop due to radiation exposure. Thus a mechanical pulsometer watch was commissioned to the second Moscow watch factory, Slava (Glory). This particular example was made in April, 1989, 3 years after the accident. It has minimal radiation exposure but still higher than average. Unique case design nicknamed the fridge case. Made for the healthcare professionals indicated by the Rod of Asclepius logo. Text written in both Latin and Cyrillic. Lollipop seconds hand allowing for easy reading when measuring pulses. A more rare variant called the KFG exists but also lost the red texts design flare. The movement is the Slava 2428 which has many interesting features. It runs at 2.5Hz allowing for a very large balance wheel. This gives the movement more ruggedness due to having larging inertial forces and less prone to deviation during bumps. The power comes from dual main springs arranged in parallel (both barrels discharged simultaneously) giving a more even torque output allowing for a cheap method for constant force. Thus the power reserve was kept at the usual 42 hours, but accuracy was theoretically improved via the parallel dual barrels Specs: Diameter: 36.5mm Lug to Lug: 44.5mm Thickness: 11mm Wears like: 43mm Lug width of 18mm Acrylic glass Chrome plated brass construction with SS case back Constant Force - The holy grail of watchmaking - Debated if its considered a complication - Trying to solve the issue of how a spring's torque changes during its delivery of power - It is the essence and philosophy behind high horology pursuits - There are different levels of refinement and complexity to constant force - innovation can be at any level of the chain (at the origin of the barrel power or at the end point of the escapement) At the barrel - Fuse and Chain which was one of the earliest method - Maltese cross stop works also known as Equal force barrel - L’instant de vérité (Tensator mainspring) - Double parallel barrels - Automatic winding, which is the most common method by keeping it fully wound and thus constant force Along the gear train - Special gear teeth - H.Moser teeth, Agenhor teeth (gear w/o play) - Resonance theory At the escapement - Rementoir, and dead beat - Constant force escapements - Breguet Natural Escapement (Central Impulse) - New types of escapements: GP, George Daniels, Omega, GS, Misqto, and Desmodromic - H. The brand new Premium tier 10 Russian battleship Slava is available in the Research Bureau for 63,000 research points. Slava is based on a Russian battleship design developed after the end of World War II known as Project 24. Slava constituted a further development of the Sovetsky Soyuz class, intended to counter US battleships of the Iowa and Montana classes. Slava is the epitome of the sniper BB archetype. While she can dish out damage very effectively at any range, her durability and dynamics leave much to be desired, which is why she performs best as a 3rd line fire support ship. The main battery is the main selling point of the ship. Her AP shells which have outstanding flight time and penetration parameters at any engagement range, which in practice translates to her being able to threaten unwary or careless enemy ships, even battleships, with citadel hits all the way out to her very long maximum base range. Her HE is nothing to scoff at, but it's also not really impressive in any way. Her rather peculiar dispersion pronounces her ability to punish broadsides at any range even more - while it may hardly win any prizes at close and medium ranges, Slava's horizontal dispersion at long range outperforms that of all other BBs, even very accurate ones such as Thunderer or Georgia. All of this combined make Slava exceptionally strong at punishing mistakes. However, considering her exceptionally long reload (which makes swapping to HE unattractive), her peculiar dispersion and her rather slow turret traverse, Slava will have a lot of trouble dealing with players who mind their broadside exposure. Her survivability is easily the worst among her peers, with the 32 mm midsection deck making her highly vulnerable to cruiser HE fire and overmatch by AP of 460 mm or larger, and the 25 mm plating on her bow and stern making her vulnerable to overmatch by all BBs in her matchmaking spread. She only gets 3 base charges of repair party which makes for a pretty low combined potential HP pool. On the plus side, she has relatively good concealment 13.2 km with all bonuses applied, which makes disengaging relatively easy when needed. Her secondary battery is barely worth mentioning, considering it has relatively low base range and volume of fire, making building for it highly unadvisable. Her AA suite is relatively strong compared to her peers, considering the large number of 57 mm guns which provide very good AA DPS, and the long range of her numerous 130mm dual purpose guns. Her maneuverability is rather underwhelming - her massive turning circle and mediocre rudder shift time may make maneuvering through tight channels quite challenging, as well as making it hard to dodge incoming torpedoes. The bottom line is, Slava's weaknesses more than compensate for her strengths which makes her a surprisingly underwhelming battleship compared to most of her peers.
