Can you spot the difference? If not, don’t worry. Because in this video, I’m going to be teaching you the differences between the two. As with a lot of terms in motorsport, the definitions can become wishy washy. With so many people from different cultures and speaking different languages all doing the exact same thing, it’s easy to understand how some people may become confused. Take this technique for example *show scandi flick* What would you call it? Maybe you’d call it an inertia drift, or a kansei drift, a fishtail drift, a pendulum turn, maybe a finnish flick, or of course, a scandinavian flick. You get the point. All of these names for the same technique originated from different locations across the globe, but in essence, they all describe the same action – and can be used interchangably. But, is this the case between drifting and powersliding? No. Both words actually share the same definition. a deliberate, controlled skid by a vehicle turning through a corner at high speed. And in many coloquial conversations, they may in fact be used interchangably. However, I think pretty much everyone that is somewhat into motorsports, or has ever driven a car in a performance manner would agree that we aren’t able to use drifting and powerslide to describe the same action. So, let’s define precicely what drift and powerslide mean; In essence, a drift is everything that happens prior to the apex. You can initiate a drift by any means possible. Be it a rip on the handbrake, giving the clutch a swift kick or doing a scandinavian flick. But, so long as it happens at the entry to a corner – or before the apex, it most definitely is a drift. With a powerslide, we actually keep things tidy all the way through the corner entry to the apex. But, once we reach said apex, we abruptly put down the power. Which, in a car with a decent power to weight ratio, will make the back end step out. They key is literally in the name, it’s a POWER slide. Achieved by putting down power on the exit of the corner. Now, the keen drifters of you will know we can actually initiate drifts by using the cars power. But, this is actually what we would call a power over. A power over is again, done at the entry to a corner – used to initiate a drift. A power over and a power slide are not the same. Another point raised is to do with drivetrains. Some say that rear wheel drive is drifting, while all wheel drive is powersliding. Again, this is wrong. We can drift AWD and powerslide RWD. They’re not mutually exclusive. Whatsmore, some people seem to think that we powerslide front wheel drive cars. This is in fact impossible, because the rear wheels don’t deliver the power. If we put our foot down at the apex of a corner in a front wheel drive car, it won’t enter a slide. But, we can drift front wheel drive because we can rip the handbrake, or use weight transfer to get the back end sliding. Does that make sense? Onboard: Powersliding the 1936 Bentley Pacey-Hassan Special on the Portimao race track in Portugal. This is a one of a kind 1936 race winning Bentley, built by Pacey Hassan. The original 4 ½ litre engine came from Pacey’s existing racing Bentley, but it was modified for the Pacey-Hassan car. It was bored out and fitted with stronger components. Today it is believed to produce over 230BHP. A pure driving machine and an absolute ear destroyer.

Best to watch on a large screen YT compresses the source vid file (prores422) so badly it causes artifacts, which obscures the details like the speedometer, some of the black rubber being laid down on the road etc- but only on some of the shots with some of the cameras I used in this vid. Very frustrating, but *A large screen helps a bit..* Anyway, It takes so much to make these videos; in time, effort, money and equipment.. All to inspire the next generation of road riding enthusiasts (You GUYS- my friends&supporters!) and show how the limits can be pushed on my personal journey to become the best rider I can be. I never enabled YT ad revenue, and recommend adblockers on my page so my videos can be viewed how I intended you to see them... Long in the works, here's my gp/sbk style canyon time attack video. I reinvented my riding style and body position to challenge the roads like the track..It takes 100% commitment and absolute dedication, but the results speak for themselves. My R1 is now wearing Pirelli Diablo Superbike Slicks, in SC1,2,3 compounds- exactly the same tyres used on every world superbike in the WSBK championship. I made the change from Dunlops a month after the new Pirelli sizes were released- and never looked back. Huge 200/65 rears and 125/70 fronts stick like glue, give perfect feedback and inspire confidence to push harder and harder- but burn up in less then 150 miles at this pace. Yes, you read that right..And a new set is over $400- my single highest expense in running this bike.. Mechanically setup with precision and maintained to the highest standards, it's a seriously fast machine. The dash speedometer you see is GPS calibrated to the correct speed, and the readout is in MPH not KPH as some have asked. It's looks may not be pristine, but the entire fairing set is pure carbon fibre, custom moulded by myself, and tough as nails. After many crashes, it only has required minor re-laminations to repair it. I'd rather have strength and protection over beauty, especially since it's only a few extra LBS over the much more delicate plastic fairings. And it's been sculpted over the years to fit my body size and riding style perfectly.. Unlike in SBK and on more modern sportbikes, My R1 is all analogue, with zero rider aides.. No traction control, no ABS, no quick shifter or anti-lift. No gyro, lean angle sensors..NOTHING.. Just lots of power! To be fast I have to push the bike right to the edge of grip- and past it, which you'll see as big black lines of rubber are laid down through the turns- and use my skill with the throttle, not an ECU doing it for me. My goal is to make the baddest, raddest, fastest and most exciting canyon/mountain riding videos available anywhere online. (Big nod there to the original FASTBIKES films by Colin Schiller featuring Shakey Byrne, which inspired ME growing up) So, let me know if I'm succeeding. Unfortunately the fence and the gates block most of the view, but I managed to squeeze most of the lens through the holes, and this is the result! The SF90 Stradale is a mid-engine PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) sports car that shares its name with the SF90 Formula One car with the name standing for the 90th anniversary of the Scuderia Ferrari racing team and "Stradale" meaning for road. The car has a 7.9 kWh lithium-ion battery for regenerative braking, giving the car 26 km (16 mi) of electric range and comes with four driving modes depending on road conditions. The modes are changed by the eManettino knob present on the steering wheel. The eDrive mode runs the car only on the electric motors, the Hybrid mode runs the car on both the internal combustion engine and the electric motors and is the car's default mode. In this mode, the car's onboard computer (called control logic) also turns off the engine if the conditions are ideal in order to save fuel while allowing the driver to start the engine again. The Performance mode keeps the engine running in order to charge the batteries and keeps the car responsive in order for optimum performance. The Qualify mode uses the powertrain to its full potential. The control logic system makes use of three primary areas; the high voltage controls of the car (including the batteries), the RAC-e (Rotation Axis Control-electric) torque vectoring system and the MGUK along with the engine and gearbox. The SF90 Stradale is equipped with three electric motors, adding a combined output of 220 PS (162 kW; 217 bhp) to a twin-turbocharged V8 engine rated at a power output of 780 PS (574 kW; 769 hp) at 7,500 rpm. The car is rated at a total output of 1,000 PS (735 kW; 986 hp) at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 800 N⋅m (590 lb⋅ft) at 6,000 rpm. The engine is an evolution of the unit found in the 488 Pista and the upcoming F8 Tributo models. The engine's capacity has been increased to 4.0 L (3,990 cc) and the bore has also been increased to 88 mm (3.46 in). The intake and exhaust of the engine have been completely modified. The cylinder heads of the engine are now narrower and the all-new central fuel injectors run at a pressure of 350 bar (5,100 psi). The assembly for the turbochargers is lower than that of the exhaust system and the engine sits 50 mm (2.0 in) lower in the chassis than the other mid-engine V8 models in order to maintain a lower centre of gravity. The engine utilises a smaller flywheels and an inconel exhaust manifold. The front wheels are powered by two electric motors (one for each wheel), providing torque vectoring. They also function as the reversing gear, as the main transmission (eight-speed dual-clutch) does not have a reversing gear. The engine of the SF90 Stradale is mated to a new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The new transmission is 10 kg (22 lb) lighter and more compact than the existing 7-speed transmission used by the other offerings of the manufacturer partly due to the absence of a dedicated reverse gear since reversing is provided by the electric motors mounted on the front axle. The new transmission also has a 30% faster shift time (200 milliseconds). The SF90 Stradale employs eSSC (electric Side Slip Control) which controls the torque distribution to all four wheels of the car. The eSSC is combined with eTC (electric Tractional Control), a new brake-by-wire system which combines the traditional hydraulic braking system and electric motors to provide optimal regenerative braking and torque vectoring. The car's all-new chassis combines aluminium and carbon fibre to improve structural rigidity and provide a suitable platform for the car's hybrid system. The car has a total dry weight of 1,570 kg (3,461 lb) after combining the 270 kg (595 lb) weight of the electric system. Ferrari states that the SF90 Stradale is capable of accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.5 seconds, 0–200 km/h (124 mph) in 6.7 seconds and can attain a top speed of 340 km/h (211 mph). #ferrari #SF90stradale #powerslide
