Hawaii's Kilauea volcano has been pouring lava into the ocean at Kapoho Bay, causing a hydrochloric acid mist called "laze". The eruption is now in its 42nd day. Aerial footage has shown fountains of lava bursting from the Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii after it erupted for the first time in 40 years. Red hot lava has poured from the volcano on Spain’s La Palma island on Friday, while smoke and ash blocked sunlight and reduced visibility. Some 6,000 people have been evacuated from the area since the eruption started on 19 September and lava flow has destroyed more than 800 buildings. Even for residents trying to live as normal, the volcanic ash is everywhere, with big efforts each day to clean it up. Earlier this week, lava reached the Atlantic Ocean, raising fears of toxic gases being released and explosions. At the weekend, lava fountains more than 50m high prompted the Met Office in Iceland to raise its ash warning for aviation to red, the highest level. Later, it reduced the alert from red to orange - the next level - saying the eruption was not creating ash.

A volcano in the Philippines has begun spewing lava, as authorities warn that a "hazardous eruption" is possible "within hours or days". In the early hours of Monday, a weak flow of lava began seeping out of Taal volcano - located some 70km (45 miles) south of the capital Manila. It comes after it emitted a huge plume of ash, triggering the mass evacuation of 8,000 people from the area. Taal is the Philippines' second most active volcano. Please subscribe HERE 🤍
A volcano eruption on La Palma in the Spanish Canary Islands has destroyed houses and forced about 5,000 residents to evacuate. Lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano has been pouring downhill since Sunday's eruption, devastating everything in its path. Local officials said about 100 houses have been destroyed so far. The Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Spanish island of La Palma ejected a lava bomb on Wednesday October 27. The molten rock travelled at speed down the side of the volcano, which has been active since it erupted on September 19, 2021. A lava bomb is formed when a volcano spews large fragments during an eruption. The lava cools into solid pieces before they reach the ground. Lava bombs or volcanic bombs are classified as having a diameter of more than 64 mm. Lava from the volcano has covered nearly 900 hectares (2,223 acres) of land, destroying 2,000 buildings and many banana plantations. Hawaii resident John Davidson returned to his home on Sunday to find lava flowing from a fissure nearby. He had evacuated to a beach campsite two weeks ago, but decided to come back after heavy rain. An explosive volcanic eruption in Chile has given scientists the first direct insight into the strange motion of rocky lava known as obsidian flow. Rather than a red river of molten rock oozing down a mountainside, this lava is a thick, rubble-strewn mass of rock. Dr Hugh Tuffen, from the University of Lancaster, and his colleagues took the first measurements of this lava flow. They found that it kept moving more than a year after the eruption. Their results were published in the journal Nature Communications. Here Dr Tuffen describes the findings and what it was like to witness the giant volcanic eruption still in action.
